Thoughtful about the resources of their environments, only certain totemic clans could hunt and eat the flesh of alligators. The trick was to quietly slip up on the crocodilian and club it to death in an instant. If the “gator” has no hint of danger, the meat is far more tender. Adrenaline leaves the meat tough and stringy.
These are experienced hunters with a cool understanding of their prey. The dugout canoe moves across the water with very little noise. By studying the distance between an alligators nose and its eyes, the hunter had a good estimate of the size of the big reptile.
There are times, when no matter how well prepared you are, no matter how skilled you are, things just go wrong. It’s always been that way. Stuff happens!
