This is our idea of what a woman's kit might be like. The palm frond represents the raw material for fiber used to weave baskets and bags . Framing the top are pottery paddles, used to decorate pots The rib on the right is a digging-stick for digging up edible roots. The seashell is a scraper.
Notice another scraper made from a deer jaw. It could have been used to scale fish or scrape corn kernels off the cob. The bone pin, pushed through the leather, in the center acts like a button. A closer look reveals bone sewing needles and the river cane tube she may have carried them in, a stone chopping knife and a clay pot. A woman's hands were busy hands, nurturing her family. Her world was the focus of her people's social fabric.
