Instructions for tying a Head Wrap

Jackie Shaffer offered to show us how to tie a head wrap that was worn by servants and commoners. First she wove a 1/2 inch x 2 yard ribbon on an Inkel loom. Gross grain ribbon may be used instead.
Notice the pouch for the hair in the back once the wrap is finished. |

A large square of linen is folded in a triangle and centered over the forehead. The ends are wound into tight tubes and crossed in the back.
Next the ribbon is centered and wrapped around the head about 1 inch from the edge of the wrap. It is then coiled around the tube on each side. Holding the two ends with the ribbon secured cross them over the forehead. |

Coil the ends around the first coil. The left side wraps over and under the right coil.
The right side wraps under and over the left coil. |
